cancels one Alaska cruise
Celebrity Cruises
canceled a week-long Alaska cruise on Summit so the ship can
go into drydock for the replacement of its starboard thrust bearing.
The canceled sailing date is May 20.
Freedom
arrives in New York
Freedom of
the Seas sailed into New York Harbor last Wednesday morning, past
the Statue of Liberty and to its berth at Cape Liberty in Bayonne.
Local television news stations covered the arrival. After a week of
inaugural events the ship heads to Boston on May 18.

NCL's
Norway headed for scrap yard
A 46-year-old
ship -- most notably known as Norwegian Cruise Lines
ship the Norway also known as the Blue Lady and the
France -- is now headed for a scrap yard in India.
The ship had
quite a history. It has been out of service since a 2003 boiler room
explosion onboard killed eight crewmembers. Prior to that, the vessel
sailed as the Norway, serving the Caribbean for more than 20
years, beginning in 1979.
It started out
as a transatlantic liner, the France, launched by a French
shipping company in 1962.
Celebrity
Cruises' Mercury heading Down Under in 2007
Celebrity Cruises
will sail in Australia and New Zealand for the first time beginning
in December 2007.
At an event in
New York May 11, Celebrity President Dan Hanrahan said the Celebrity
Mercury will operate six 15-day sailings between Auckland, New
Zealand, and Sydney from December 2007 to March 2008.
Regent
plots 59-night S. America voyage
Thirty-six
ports in 15 countries are on tap for Seven Seas Mariners
59-night Circle South America voyage in 2007. The
all-balcony-suite ship will operate roundtrip from Fort Lauderdale,
sailing on Jan. 9.
Six overnights
in port and seven complimentary shoreside events are planned.
Jean-Michel Cousteau will be aboard as a guest lecturer during the
Amazon segment with representatives of his Ocean Futures Society.
Segments of 11
to 19 nights are offered. Passengers can extend the trip into a
73-night program by embarking in Los Angeles on Dec. 26 for a
trans-canal holiday cruise prior to the South America voyage.
Insignia
completes major upgrade
Oceania
Cruises Insignia completed a multimillion-dollar
refurbishment in France. The 10-day project was timed prior to the
start of the ships European season.
Insignia now
sports eight private cabanas with Balinese sun beds and a poolside al
fresco lounge, The Patio both concepts introduced by younger
sister Nautica late last year.

Tandem
transatlantic crossing planned for Queen Victoria and QE2
Cunard's
new liner Queen Victoria, delivering next December, will
embark on her 106-night maiden World Cruise out of Southampton on the
same day in January 2008 as QE2 leaves for a 103-night 'South
America, Pacific and Orient Odyssey' voyage.
Both ships
will leave Southampton on Sunday January 6, 2008, but follow very
different routes. The two will head for New York on the first-ever
tandem westbound Transatlantic crossing. QE2, making her 804th
Atlantic crossing, will escort Queen Victoria, making her first, with
both arriving in New York a week later. They then continue together,
reaching Fort Lauderdale two days later. From there the ships will
take different courses before a further 'Meeting of the Queens' in
Sydney on February 24. |
